Opportunities
We are always interested in students who may be a good fit for our team at INRS. Our institution has been ranked number one in Canada for research intensity for nearly a decade, thanks to the expertise of our professors and the excellence of our students. We are a research-focused university that primarily trains graduate students (MSc and PhD) and postdoctoral researchers. We also have internships available in the summer, fall or winter, for undergraduates to spend 12-16 weeks in one of our laboratories.
MSc and PhD opportunities in experimental quantum optics
The Laboratoire de Photonique Appliquée, in particular, offers research opportunities in quantum state engineering and control for imaging, sensing and communication.
The research lines explored within the group include (but are not limited to):
-
Exploitation of quantum correlations for imaging
-
Development of non-linear single photon detectors
-
Applications of structured photons to quantum communication
-
Sensing and imaging through scattering media with quantum light
-
Remote sensing using photonic quantum states

Prospective students will have the opportunity to:
-
gain in-depth knowledge of the principles of quantum optics and develop a sound understanding of the ways in which it is pushing the boundaries of science and engineering.
-
Acquire experimental knowledge in the manipulation of light at the quantum level, and master the use of state-of-the-art equipment available at INRS
-
Participate in national and international collaboration, with opportunities for research stays across Canada and overseas.

The team is mainly focused on experimental work, but there is space for students interested in theoretical work. Prospective students will be required to meet the admission criteria of the INRS. For more information, click here for the PhD program and here for the MSc program.

If you are willing to embrace the dynamics of teamwork and are excited to be part of a vibrant community of quantum scientists and engineers in Canada, please send us an email, attaching a copy of your CV and a brief description (less than half an A4 page) of the area of research that would interest you.

Postdoctoral researcher in quantum sensing and imaging
We are always interested in researchers with expertise that aligns with our core interests. We currently do not have funded openings for a postdoctoral researcher, but should you be interested in working with us, please send us an email to discuss ways in which we could make it happen.
Undergraduate internships
Every summer, we host a cohort of undergraduate students interested in learning how to generate and characterize photonic entanglement, carve light and photons into beautiful patterns that can be used for communication, design and build quantum and classical communication systems, and more. If this resonates with you, please get in touch with us by the end of January to make the necessary arrangements.
Please note that this opportunity is also open to students attending secondary school, though the duration and conditions of the internships may vary depending on your academic year.
